SANDERLINGS

As a wave comes rolling in, these birds run up on the beach just ahead of a roaring breaker, then sprint after the retreating water to feed on the tiny crustaceans left exposed.  They are only 8" long from head to tail tip.

This is their winter plumage.          They also had beautiful striped winged.
